Founded as an emergency relief effort in 1989 after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo, East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) has since grown into a permanent resource for the community with a mission to provide assistance, guidance, and resources to help our neighbors navigate through life’s challenges. Annually, over 2,000 families receive help through ECCO’s Wellness Pantry, Financial Assistance, Dental & Medical Clinics, Prescription Assistance, Clothing Closet, Asset Development Program, and other services. Enhanced through personal interactions with staff who provide individualized support for each client, ECCO meets each client where they are and helps them navigate the challenges they are facing with care and compassion. ECCO is also a place where people who want to help their neighbors can find meaningful ways to share their time, talent, and treasure. Position Summary

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of ECCO’s volunteer program including the recruitment, training, and placement of individual and group volunteers while helping with marketing efforts to promote ECCO’s mission. This position ensures volunteer support to assist in the delivery of the organization’s programs and services. Providing guidance, training, resources, and tools for ECCO staff and volunteers, this position plays an integral role in helping the organization strengthen both its internal operations and outreach efforts by building relationships with current volunteers as well as new businesses, agencies, and groups in the community. This position is instrumental to ECCO’s DEIB efforts by helping recruit diverse volunteers, assisting in the implementation of programs and initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion, as well as providing volunteer training on topics such as cultural competence annually.

Salary Range: $40,912 – $48,732

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s degree + 5 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications: Additional skills, knowledge, and attributes that will support the successful completion of position responsibilities.

  • Strong sense of volunteer stewardship, building relationships with volunteers of all backgrounds
  • Effective work habits including time management, teamwork, and a proactive mindset
  • Previous use of a volunteer management platform or similar database
  • Comfortable representing the organization at community events, speaking engagements, and networking events.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative team environment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google’s workspace

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. No adverse environmental conditions are expected. This is largely a sedentary role; however, standing and walking may be occasionally required for client interaction and/or special event participation. The position frequently communicates with employees, volunteers, donors, and clients; the ability to exchange accurate information in these situations is required.

Supervisory Requirements: None

Typical work hours are between 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 AM – 4 PM on Fridays.  Additionally, all staff are required to attend occasional special events in the evenings or on weekends.

Nonprofit Clinic Dentist (Part-Time)

About the Position

The Clinic Dentist of ECCO’s dental clinic is an Independent 1099 Contractor position which extends the individual’s South Carolina Dental License to ECCO for the clinic’s continued operations. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide clinical care to the clients of ECCO’s Dental Clinic. Secondarily, the clinic dentist provides clinical oversight of all dental clinic providers including staff, volunteer dentists, and dental students. This oversight ensures continuity and quality of care, as well as serving as the lead instructor of dental and dental hygiene students during their rotations in our clinic.

Because of contractual agreements with local education providers Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Trident Technical College (TTC), clinic dentists must provide direct supervision to MUSC Dental students, maintain MUSC adjunct status with the university, and be responsible for TTC student fieldwork or clinical experience.

Schedule

This position generally works between 12-20 hours a week including some requested evenings. The work schedule will be mutually agreed upon based on provider availability and client needs. The current clinic hours are Monday and Tuesday, 8 am – 4 pm, Wednesday 9 am – 2 pm, and Extraction Clinic, on Thursdays from 4 – 7 pm. It is expected that the Clinic Dentist be on-call for clinical consultation (via phone) from fellow dentists volunteering in the no-cost clinic or to fill in for volunteer dentists as needed. Time off requests are mutually agreed upon and must be submitted within a minimum of 30 days of the date of request accompanied by confirmation that the requested time off can be covered by one of our volunteer dentists.

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry preferably with a degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.)
  • Valid SC Dental License
  • Has or is willing to meet the Adjunct Professor credentialing standards of the MUSC College of Dental Medicine
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate of training

About the Position

The Lead Dentist of ECCO’s dental clinic is an Independent 1099 contractor position which extends the individual’s South Carolina Dental License to ECCO for the clinic’s continued operations. The first and foremost responsibility of the position is to provide clinical care to the clients of ECCO’s Dental Clinic. Secondarily, is to provide clinical oversight by all providers including staff, volunteer dentists, and dental students. This means ensuring continuity and quality of care, as well as serving as the lead instructor of dental and dental hygiene students during their rotations in our clinic.

**Per our agreement with the Medical University of SC preceptors must provide direct supervision to MUSC Dental students and maintain adjunct status with the university.

** Per our agreement with TTC, Section 2.08 “Designate a Fieldwork Supervisor/a staff member who will be responsible for the fieldwork or clinical experience.”

**As a 1099 contract employee, direct benefits are not provided. However, ECCO will continue to maintain Medical Professional Liability insurance for the dental clinic. The slot policy covers one dentist working in the clinic at any one time. Our policy includes coverage of $3M per incident / $6M annual aggregate.

General Duties

The Lead Dentist is a part-time Independent 1099 Contract position up to, but no more than 28 hours a week including the evening Extraction Clinic, which is currently held on Thursdays from 5 PM-7 PM.** It is expected that the Lead Dentist be on-call for clinical consultation (via phone) from fellow dentists volunteering in the no-cost clinic or to fill in for volunteer dentists as needed.

**Please note that all services and schedules will be mutually agreed upon based on the availability of the provider and the needs of our Health Services Clients.

Individuals in this position must understand public health and be committed to providing service to underserved populations within our community by HIPAA regulations and ECCO confidentiality policies. The individual in this role will act with a proactive mindset always striving for efficiency and process improvement, as well as positive problem-solving. This position executes professional dental practices as a representative of ECCO and is asked to reflect the organization’s core values of Compassion for others, Respect for all, Collaboration with colleagues, volunteers, vendors, and referral sources, and Integrity in all communications and interactions.

Role and Responsibilities of the Lead Dentist:

Provide clinical care

  • Works with the clinic staff and local health entities to ensure all regulatory standards by OSHA and DHEC are being met and develops or approves clinical protocol to ensure compliance with changes in local, state, and national standards of care
  • Executes general dentistry procedures including the use of local anesthetic(s), dental care instruction, comprehensive oral examinations, panoramic x-rays and analysis of them, evaluations of dental needs, and the development of treatment plans
  • Ensures accuracy and routine maintenance of patient’s clinical records
  • Provides constructive assessment of the clinical execution of dental team staff members for their annual reviews
  • Has an understanding of the clients and their potential challenges, the clinic’s annual operating budget, production numbers, and required equipment to perform our provided services.

Provide clinical oversight and serve as the lead instructor for dental student rotations

  • Serves as the preceptor/attending for MUSC undergraduate dental students, per the mutually agreed upon student rotation schedule with MUSC, and communicates any changes or requirements of the university to the staff of ECCO
  • Ensures volunteer professionals have current licenses, are in good standing with the LLR State Board of Dentistry, and meet the requirements of MUSC College of Dental Medicine.
  • Works with the Senior Manager of Health Services to maintain quality operations, client-centered service, and good working relationships between all partners, vendors, and volunteers.

Public Relations

  • Works with ECCO staff to build and expand the clinic’s presence in the community, including the recruitment of volunteers and contributing to communications with the local dental community


Required Education and Licensure:
