East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) is currently hiring for a Dental Hygienist.

About East Cooper Community Outreach: Founded as an emergency relief effort in 1989
after the devastation from Hurricane Hugo, East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) has
since grown into a permanent resource for the community with a mission to provide assistance,
guidance, and resources to help our neighbors navigate through life’s challenges. Annually,
over 1,500 families receive help through ECCO’s Wellness Pantry, Financial Assistance, Dental
& Medical Clinics, Prescription Assistance, Clothing Closet, Asset Development Program, and
other services. Enhanced through personal interactions with staff who provide individualized
support and coaching for each client, ECCO meets each client where they are and helps them
navigate the challenges they are facing with care and compassion. ECCO is also a place where
people who want to help their neighbors can find meaningful ways to share their time, talent,
and treasure. Each month, more than 200 local neighbors give their time, volunteering at

Position Summary
The as needed Dental Hygienist will play a key role in the ECCO Dental Clinic by providing
excellent oral hygiene care and oral health treatment to patients. The Clinic serves our
uninsured neighbors from the Tricounty at no cost.

Reports to: Health Services Manager                                         FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $35 (as needed, 8 – 16 hours per week)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of a Dental Hygiene program that meets or exceeds the standards
• established by the ADA
• Valid South Carolina state dental hygienist license 
• American Heart Association BLS certificate

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional skills, knowledge, and attributes that will support the successful completion of
position responsibilities.

• Two years of dental hygienist experience
• Knowledge, use, and experience with Open Dental or similar dental software
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and clients.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google’s workspace

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work involves regular and recurring exposure to potential hazards of radiation and
communicable diseases. Clinic employees are required to wear personal protective equipment
and follow appropriate protective measures. Frequent periods of bending, standing, and walking
are required. The position frequently communicates with employees, practitioners, volunteers,
and clients; the ability to professionally exchange accurate and sensitive information in these
situations is required. Work requires reaching, and recurring bending to perform intraoral
procedures. The hygienist must also demonstrate above-average dexterity in manipulating
sharp dental instruments.

Supervisory Requirements: None

Typical work hours are between 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays with a
possibility of additional hours if needed. Additionally, all staff are required to attend occasional
special events in the evenings or on weekends.
