Volunteer

Volunteers are the cornerstone of ECCO’s ability to serve our neighbors. With over 400 active individuals, ECCO volunteers inspire hope and encourage transformation with compassion and dignity.

Last year our volunteers dedicated 34,207 hours of service for a total value to the community of $1,266,185! Below you’ll find information on volunteer opportunities and how to complete our Volunteer Inquiry Form. Thanks for your interest, we hope to add you to our Team of Volunteers.

Closer
Administration/Operations

The Operations and Administrative Team at ECCO has volunteer opportunities that allow you to help behind the scenes, making the work our team completes daily at ECCO possible. Shifts are based on availability, need, and skills/expertise.

Client Services

Our Client Services team is on the front lines of serving the community. Opportunities range from working in our Front Office to Spanish-speaking and translation to taking food orders with clients. These volunteers start every interaction with “Welcome to ECCO, how may I help you today” because we never know who is walking through our door – people who need our help, or people who are there to help provide help.

      • Monday – Thursday
        • 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Community Service
First Saturday

This volunteer opportunity is a perfect chance for families or individuals to volunteer at our Wellness Food Pantry on Six Mile Road. Held on the first Saturday of each month, we kick off the morning with a tour of the food pantry to learn more about what we do and how to support the organization. Projects will include sorting donations, stocking shelves, cleaning, organizing, and much more.

This is ECCO’s most sought-after volunteer opportunity. If you’re not able to sign up in time, we are happy to add you to our waiting list.

If you’re interested in being part of this drop-in opportunity, please email volunteer@eccocharleston.org.

Fresh & Free Farmer’s Market

On the third Thursday of each month, ECCO holds a free farmer’s market for our community. From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., neighbors can take home enough fruits and vegetables for their entire household. Volunteers help make the entire event possible by assisting with setup, distribution, and teardown.

Wellness Pantry

ECCO’s Client Choice Wellness Pantry resembles a grocery store and volunteers play a critical role in keeping the shelves stocked with food and other household products (diapers, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.). Special Projects

Each week, ECCO hosts volunteers to help with special projects inside and outside the walls of our building. If you’re interested in volunteering at ECCO once or periodically, this is the opportunity for you.

Given our Six Mile Road renovation project and a long-term vacancy in our Volunteer Manager position, we ask prior 2024 applicants who did not receive a response to resubmit their application. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience, understanding, and support of ECCO.

Due to the renovations at Six Mile Road, please note that ECCO cannot guarantee the fulfillment of community service hours and recommends those with more than 10 to seek alternate volunteer opportunities across the Lowcountry.
