Volunteer
Volunteers are the cornerstone of ECCO’s ability to serve our neighbors. With over 431 active individuals, ECCO volunteers inspire hope and encourage transformation with compassion and dignity. Last year our volunteers dedicated 34,207 hours of service for a total value to the community of $1,266,185! This section of our website provides information about where volunteers are needed most, service hours, and contact information. Thank you for your interest!
Closer
Front Office
Volunteers on our Client Services team are on the front lines of serving the community. These front office opportunities include taking food orders, checking in on clients, providing Spanish-speaking assistance, and supporting administrative tasks (filing, organizing, etc.).

Fresh & Free Farmer’s Market
On the third Thursday of each month, ECCO holds a free farmer’s market for our community. From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., neighbors can take home enough fruits and vegetables for their entire household. Volunteers help make the entire event possible by assisting with setup, distribution, and teardown.
Clothing Closet
Volunteers are welcome to serve at Clothing Closet on Bowman Road. Volunteers sort through donations and help ensure our store is organized and presented with dignity for our client. Please note our Clothing Closet is not at our main office on Six Mile Road. Learn more about our Clothing Closet by visiting https://eccocharleston.org/clothing-closet/.

First Saturday
This volunteer opportunity is a perfect chance for families or individuals to volunteer at our Wellness Food Pantry on Six Mile Road. Held on the first Saturday of each month, we kick off the morning with a tour of the food pantry to learn more about what we do and how to support the organization. Projects will include sorting donations, stocking shelves, cleaning, organizing, and much more.
Special Projects
Each week, ECCO hosts volunteers to help with special projects inside and outside the walls of our building. If you’re interested in volunteering at ECCO once or periodically, this is the opportunity for you.
Given our Six Mile Road renovation project and a long-term vacancy in our Volunteer Manager position, we ask prior 2024 applicants who did not receive a response to resubmit their application. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience, understanding, and support of ECCO.
Due to the renovations at Six Mile Road, please note that ECCO cannot guarantee the fulfillment of community service hours and recommends those with more than 10 to seek alternate volunteer opportunities across the Lowcountry.
Opportunities for minors are limited to First Saturdays and drop-ins on Friday mornings. All children 15 and younger are required to have a parent or guardian with them while they are volunteering. Those aged 16 & 17 may volunteer without an adult present if they bring an ECCO waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
