Part-Time Wellness Pantry Associate

East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) is currently hiring for a part-time Wellness Pantry Associate. 

About East Cooper Community Outreach: Founded as an emergency relief effort in 1989 after the devastation from Hurricane Hugo, East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) has since grown into a permanent resource for the community with a mission to provide assistance, guidance, and resources to help our neighbors navigate through life’s challenges. Annually, over 1,500 families receive help through ECCO’s Wellness Pantry, Financial Assistance, Dental & Medical Clinics, Prescription Assistance, Clothing Closet, Asset Development Program, and other services. Enhanced through personal interactions with staff who provide individualized support and coaching for each client, ECCO meets each client where they are and helps them navigate the challenges they are facing with care and compassion. ECCO is also a place where people who want to help their neighbors can find meaningful ways to share their time, talent, and treasure. Position Summary

The part-time Wellness Pantry Associate will play a key role in supporting the Wellness Pantry Manager, route driver and volunteers. This position will ensure the smooth operation of the fast-paced pantry by assisting in daily tasks, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and filling in wherever needed.

Reports to: Wellness Pantry Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  

Salary Range: $17.31 – $18.75 per hour Classification: Part-time, up to 29 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and a 5-year driving record with no major incidents

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in food safety and facility cleanliness.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various roles within the pantry as needed.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google’s workspace

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position operates in a busy warehouse environment and routinely drives a motor vehicle from the ECCO fleet (refrigerated 17’ box truck, Sprinter van and/or Toyota ADA compliant van), with regular use of a pallet jack, truck lift, and ladder. Constant moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Frequently moves donated products and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent exposure to outdoor elements such as varied temperatures, precipitation, and wind. Frequent use of computer equipment. The position frequently communicates with employees, volunteers, and clients; the ability to exchange accurate information in these situations is required.

Supervisory Requirements: None

Typical work hours are 8 am – 2 pm Mon-Thurs and 8 am – 1 pm on Fridays. Weekend hours may be required 3-4 times per year.

The as needed Dental Hygienist will play a key role in the ECCO Dental Clinic by providing excellent oral hygiene care and oral health treatment to patients. The Clinic serves our uninsured neighbors from the Tricounty at no cost.

Salary Range: $27 – $30 (as needed, 8 – 16 hours per week)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Dental Hygiene program that meets or exceeds the standards established by the ADA
  • Valid South Carolina state dental hygienist license
  • American Heart Association BLS certificate

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Additional skills, knowledge, and attributes that will support the successful completion of position responsibilities. 

  • Two years of dental hygienist experience.
  • Knowledge, use, and experience with Open Dental or similar dental software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google’s workspace.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work involves regular and recurring exposure to potential hazards of radiation and communicable diseases. Clinic employees are required to wear personal protective equipment and follow appropriate protective measures. Frequent periods of bending, standing, and walking are required. The position frequently communicates with employees, practitioners, volunteers, and clients; the ability to professionally exchange accurate and sensitive information in these situations is required. Work requires reaching, and recurring bending to perform intraoral procedures. The hygienist must also demonstrate above-average dexterity in manipulating sharp dental instruments.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review patient’s medical and dental history for evidence of past and present conditions such as illnesses or social behaviors that may complicate or alter dental hygiene treatment.
  • Examine teeth and surrounding tissues for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease; inspect the mouth and throat for evidence of disease such as oral cancer; interpret routine x-rays to identify tooth structures, calculus, and abnormalities such as cavities and deep periodontal pockets.
  • Assess current dental hygiene treatment plans for assessment of the problem, type of oral hygiene care required, and the sequence of appointments needed to complete treatment.
  • Provide dental hygiene procedures and home care instruction to patients.
  • Chart abnormalities such as cavities, traumatic occlusion, or lesions.
  • Be knowledgeable of current infection control procedures and OSHA guidelines in order to set up treatment room and check, sterilize, and maintain instruments.
  • Assist clinic staff and volunteer professional providers with clinic operations.

Supervisory Requirements: None

Typical work hours are between from 8:30 AM – 4 PM, Tuesday and/or Wednesdays. The specific schedule will be based on the availability of the hygienist(s) hired for this role.

As needed employees are not eligible for benefits.
