ECCO Unveils New Mobile Office to Expand Access to Services in Rural East Cooper Communities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina: East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) is expanding access to essential services for neighbors in rural East Cooper communities with the launch of its new ECCO Mobile Office, designed to bring assistance, guidance, and resources directly to residents who may face barriers traveling to ECCO’s Mount Pleasant campus.

The community is invited to get a first look at the new Mobile Office during a special preview event on Tuesday, August 18, from 12:00–3:00 p.m. at Sewee Outpost in Awendaw. ECCO staff will be available to give tours of the new mobile unit, answer questions, and share information about the services that will soon be available closer to home.

Beginning in September, the ECCO Mobile Office will serve residents in Awendaw for three days each month, with plans to expand into McClellanville in the future. The first scheduled service dates will be September 16–18 at Berkeley Electric Cooperative in Awendaw.

Through the Mobile Office, residents will be able to meet face-to-face with ECCO staff to learn about available resources, determine eligibility, apply to become an ECCO client, make appointments and food orders, and connect with ECCO’s network of programs and support.

The initiative comes after ECCO spent time listening to residents and community partners in Awendaw and McClellanville about the challenges facing their communities. Transportation, particularly for older adults, emerged as an important barrier to accessing resources. The Mobile Office represents an important step toward meeting neighbors where they are and strengthening ECCO’s presence throughout its service area.

“ECCO has always believed that support should be accessible to every neighbor who needs it,” said Patty Frost, Director of Programs and Services. “For many residents in our rural communities, getting to Mount Pleasant can be a significant challenge. The Mobile Office allows us to bring that first point of connection directly to them, helping neighbors access resources and take the next step toward greater stability.”

The Mobile Office will initially focus on client navigation and connecting residents with ECCO’s existing programs and resources.
