ECCO has been an active and motivating force in the community for disaster preparedness and planning since its origin following Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Maintaining strong partnerships with the Town of Mount Pleasant and other local government agencies, ECCO sponsors informational meetings, workshops, and seminars throughout the year, and actively recruits community groups, churches, and businesses, for post-hurricane relief and recovery participation. The organization also offers Family Hurricane Preparedness Kits for a donation of $40. The contents of this customized kit have a combined value of approximately $80 and include 20 items such as a Dynamo 4-in-1 Flashlight Radio with batteries, a 52-piece First Aid Kit, toilet paper, a light stick, and more.
