Dr. Michael Cuenin

Director, Dental Clinic


Dr. Michael Cuenin has been named the Dental Director of the East Cooper Community Outreach clinic. He has been a volunteer at ECCO since 2012. Dr. Mike Cuenin is a Periodontist who moved to Mount Pleasant when he retired from the military after 30 years of service. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1978 with a BA in History and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1981 with a DMD. Upon graduation from Tufts he entered United States Army Dental Corps. Dr. Cuenin is a graduate of a General Practice Residency Program (Fort Riley, Kansas, 1982) and the United States Army Periodontic Residency (Fort Gordon, Georgia, 1990).

Teacher, Leader and Researcher
Dr. Cuenin has held teaching appointments in multiple dental education programs and currently is a volunteer clinical instructor at Medical University of South Carolina. He served as the Director of the Army Periodontics program. He also has extensive leadership experience, commanding Dental units in Wuerzburg, Germany, Heidelberg, Germany and Fort Jackson. His highest military award is the Legion of Merit (3). Dr. Cuenin is the author or co-author of over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Periodontology, General Dentistry, Journal of Oral Implantology, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and the Journal of Oral Implantology.

After Hours
He has been married to his wife Denise since 1979. They have three children and 3 grandsons. He enjoys his family and travel when he is away from the office.
